We are really excited about our new school.  Please click on the items below to see diagrams/plans of our new school.

This is where we are so far with the plans for moving school:

December 2016

  • The build is well underway but some complications have taken it ‘to the wire’ in terms of completion.
  • We are considering the best options in the light of this. We don’t want to move in unless we feel sure everything will be completely ready and we will feel in control.
  • Our preferred option is to use that half-term for transitions and to move in fully at May half-term.
  • To support this we propose to move two of the training days, to make one each side of May half-term (Friday 26th May and Monday 5th June).
  • This means school will open earlier at the beginning of the Summer Term: Monday 23rd April.
  • Please let us know if this affects your holiday plans - we will look at exceptions under the circumstances.
  • This also means that if Y11 parents are worried about the ‘double transition’ they can have the option to have an earlier leavers’ date: Monday 5th June.
  • We will consult more fully on these ideas in January.

October 2016

  • Building work is on schedule but a decision has been made to replace windows - which could have an impact on completion dates.
  • Demolition has revealed some hidden features that will enhance the build, like some wonderful arching in the Main Hall and roof lights in the Dining Hall.
  • We have gone out to tender for two sensory rooms.

July 2016

  • Building has now started!
  • Completion date is 10th March 2017 (fingers crossed)
  • We hope to move in after the Easter holidays
  • We will use three of our INSET days around the time of the move: 7th April, 24th & 25th April
  • Pupils will have a longer Easter holiday and come back on 26th April to their new school!

May 2016

  • Sadly yet again building work has been delayed.
  • As a result the moving date has now been moved on to Easter 2017.
  • We have agreed to take more pupils on at Lydgate and a modular classroom is due to be placed in the school car park. We will probably have about 90 pupils in September. This will be a bit of a challenge, but we are putting plans in place to support our pupils - and staff!
  • It will probably be nicer to move in after Easter for the Summer Term, when we can fully enjoy the wonderful outside facilities.
  • We remain positive!

March 2016

  • Work is now due to start at the end of March.
  • It should be finished by the end of December.
  • Transition week will be in January.
  • Transitions visits will happen throughout the Autumn Term (woodland projects in the grounds).
  • We should move in fully in January.

February 2016

  • We are disappointed that the build has been delayed but it's more important that it’s right for us.
  • The contract is due to be signed in February
  • Building work should start in March
  • The build should be finished by the end of November
  • Transitions will take place over the last week of November and the first week in December, or the first week of December and January
  • We WILL celebrate Christmas at Lydgate
  • We should move in fully in January 2017.

January 2016

  • We are disappointed that the build has been delayed but it's more important that they get it right.
  • The contract is due to be signed in February
  • Building work is to start in March
  • The build should be finished by the end of November
  • Transitions will take place over the last week of November and the first week in December
  • We WILL celebrate Christmas at Lydgate
  • We should move in fully in January 2017.

December 2015

  • Additional work has taken place around the lighting, ventilation and heat retention in downstairs classrooms following the addition of outside canopies
  • Additional work has also been done to create additional toilet provision after we expressed some concerns
  • Storage space has also been an issue and looks like it has been addressed
  • We hope that work will start in the New Year
  • The feeling has been that it’s better to get it right!

October 2015

  • The local authority are supporting us in developing a new logo—we will share their 3 suggestions at Parents’ Evening.
  • The latest plans for the new school will be on display at Parents’ Evening.
  • We want you to come up with lots of questions to help us to produce a FAQ leaflet.
  • Some parent governors went to look round the school site two weeks ago and staff went last week—and they loved it, especially the outside environment!
  • At the moment rebuilding hasn’t started, so the building is just full of what’s left over from the Junior School moving out
  • Contractors hope to make a start in November.

 September 2015

  • Plans for the new school have been finalised and gone out to tender
  • 3 companies are bidding for the contract
  • Work should start on site in November
  • Plans and further information will be shared at the Parents’ Evening in October
  • Work should be completed in August next year
  • The school have asked for certain areas to be finished earlier to allow transition visits to happen in July
  • The Local Authority will support us with developing a new ‘look’: a new logo, motto and uniform.
